University Sponsored Student Summer 2021 Travel Policy

Dear Colleagues and Students,

As more people are vaccinated over the next several months, more opportunities for travel will become available. However, significant public health risks remain. Therefore, the University Sponsored Student Summer 2021 Travel Policy outlined below is designed to balance public safety with the needs of students to make progress toward their degrees, particularly research that often requires travel to sites in the United States and around the world. Given current conditions, the policy for student summer travel this year will be as follows.

Undergraduate students: University-sponsored travel within the United States to take part in research or other activities directly relevant to degree progress is permitted. University-sponsored international travel is not permitted, but students may petition the dean of undergraduates to make the case that such travel is necessary for coursework or research.

Graduate students: University-sponsored travel to take part in research or other activities directly relevant to degree progress is permitted both within the United States and internationally.

Like all other policies related to COVID-19, these policies may change as the public health environment evolves. Please note that, per University Policy 852, university sponsored international travel needs to be registered in the travel registry.

Respectfully,

Reginald DesRoches, Provost

Kevin Kirby, Crisis Management Advisory Committee Chair
