Search for Next Dean of Shepherd School of Music Has Begun

Dear Colleagues,

The search for Rice’s next dean of the Shepherd School of Music has begun. We have taken the first step in finding the next dean with the appointment of the search committee. Seiichi Matsuda, Dean of Graduates and Postdoctoral Studies and the E. Dell Butcher Chair in Chemistry, will lead the committee, which includes the following members.

  • Norman Fischer, Herbert S. Autrey Professor of Cello
  • Richard Hawley, Professor of Clarinet and Chair of Woodwinds
  • Miah Im, Professor of Opera and Director of Opera Studies
  • Richard Lavenda, Professor of Composition and Theory
  • Jon Kimura Parker, Professor of Piano
  • Larry Rachleff, Walter Kris Hubert Professor of Orchestral Conducting, Music Director of the Shepherd School Symphony and Chamber Music Orchestra
  • Geoffrey Scott, Assistant Dean, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management
  • Guillermo “Memo” Treviño, Board of Trustees member
  • Kathi Dantley Warren, Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations
  • Alison Weaver, Executive Director, Moody Center for the Arts
  • Kathleen Winkler, Dorothy Richard Starling Classical Violin Chair, Co-Chair of Strings   

We encourage each of you to submit nominations for the position to Isaacson, Miller, a recruiting firm that is assisting in the search. We expect to conclude the search and name the new dean in late spring.
