Dear Rice community,
I’m pleased to announce that I’ve appointed Bridget Gorman as vice provost for student life and dean of undergraduates. This is not a new role, but rather a recognition of the significant expansion of Dean Gorman’s responsibilities since her initial appointment as dean of undergraduates in 2018.
Her division encompasses a wide range of services for all students, including health and wellness, disability resources and career development. Over the past year, Rice has expanded these services through the creation of the Student Disability Resource Center and the growth of other offices such as the Center for Career Development. As vice provost for student life, Dean Gorman will continue to work closely with Dean of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Seiichi Matsuda and will meet with student leadership to ensure that the needs of both our graduate and undergraduate students are met.
As the dean of undergraduates and vice provost for student life, Dean Gorman will advance Rice’s commitment to inclusive and holistic student education and support. Her division has undergone a similar name change to recognize the breadth of support offered and will now be known as the Division of Student Life and Undergraduate Education.
Please join me in congratulating Dean Gorman on this well-deserved recognition
Warm regards,
Amy Dittmar, Howard Hughes Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
